Pão de Queijo (Brazilian Cheese Bread)
31 April 2012 - Pão de Queijo |
It's easy. The ingredients (tapioca flour, egg, milk, oil and cheese) are always found in my house. The utensils needed are blender, mini muffin tin and
oven. The results are satisfying, savory and chewy.
In my hometown we have similar type snack based on tapioca flour. They are Cireng (Fried type. It's crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. Can be filled with beef, cheese, chicken, etc), Cilok (Boiled type. Chewy, usually eaten with peanut butter sauce and chili sauce)and Cimol (Round, fried, eaten with various dry seasoning). They are usually sold as street hawker food.
I love the chewiness of tapioca flour snack.
The recipe is from Simply Recipes the brackets are the modifications I used
Pão de Queijo
12-16 mini muffin sized
1 egg
1/3 cup olive oil (I used vegetable oil)
2//3 cup milk
170 g tapioca flour
66 g grated cheese
1 tsp salt or to taste
Preheat oven to 200°C. Grease the mini-muffin tin. Put all of the ingredients into a blender and pulse until smooth. Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
PS. Elise said that "The recipe as presented is fairly basic. Feel free to dress it up a bit with herbs or spices of your choice." So I add black pepper and scallion in my second attempt.
